We have almost reached the end of a long academic year. I am proud of all the progress you have made and I hope you are too. I guess for many of you, this programme offered a completely different approach to teaching and assessment. At times I am sure you did not feel entirely confident, yet you persisted and pushed yourselves to the end. This is most certainly an achievement (surviving one of my classes is always an achievement!) So here is our last blog discussion this year:
Imagine you are talking to a student who will enter this programme next year. The student asks you: "How can I pass this course?" What advice would you give?
Future students could really benefit from knowing what to expect before they come to university. Please share whatever you think will be helpful from your personal experience of this programme. You should consider both the Economics lectures and our critical thinking/academic skills component. Please note: You should give honest feedback: there will be no penalty for negative comments, nor any reward for positive ones.

I recommend that they should take this class serious. They should come to all classes otherwise it can be hard to catch up the work done. If you take notes, listen lessons and bring all the materials to class with done homeworks it is certain that you will pass and it's not hard.
I advise that they should come to all classes, because if you miss a class it may be difficult to understand what is happening. They should bring all metarials on Bilgi Online,take notes during the lesson. They should do their homework regularly and seriously. Finally they should try to do their best!!
If I were them, I would not enter that ''new'' programme. I advise them to enter former programme if they would have a chance to choose. It is not something about teachers, but I got bored so much because we did same things for lots of times. Essays, blogs (actually blog was nice at the begining), movies. In addition at the end of the semester someone called rector will decide for them to study for extra three weeks in the university and they will have eight economics classes at their second years. But if they will have only one chance and if that chance will be our programme I advise them to join every classes because the notes are taken by the others will not be enough because everyone's opinion is different. In addition blog and online should be checked everyday and they should bring everything necessary. Dates of homeworks are really serious and it is not nice to miss them.

I think that attendance is the most important thing. They should take this seriously. They should not think that I'm at university. I don't have to come every day. Also,coming class is not enough. If they come class, they will be ready for lesson.They should bring all metarials and they should follow Bilgi Online and blog regularly. Lastly, have a good luck!
Firstly, I can advice to incoming students to be ambitious and determined to get the skills from this course because the most important thing to pass the course is just really wanting to learn and study for their aims. This course has an exactly specific and simple procedure to apply. Participation to lessons on time, bringing all materials to the classes which are already announced on Bilgi Online, doing home works and writing journals/essays on time, joining activities effectively such as class and blog debates are basic things to do. If they have any problem with the language or involved things with the course, they just should have a tutorial with the lecturer for a suitable time. The course especially helped us in critical thinking and interrogating anything, so the lecturers are also open to criticize both the course and themselves. As a result, there is no need to be anxious. Studying for themselves actually would lead new students to pass with a high grade.
At first, I think they will be very lucky because these suggestions can be beneficial for them. My friends have already written good advices. I think the most important thing is attendance because if students join all of the classes, they can learn more thing and passing will be very easy. Of course, bringing necessary materials like papers on Bilgi Online, notes, books etc. is important, too. I think, if students do all of these suggestions, I am sure they will pass with A.
The most important thing I can advice students who will take this course in the next years is that they should not underestimate this course.It has 18(!) credits and it is a big deal to skip it. Attend the lessons and try to do your best if you want to pass it. It is not like a course that you can pass by studying only before exams....
I understood that; to pass this course the most important thing is the attandence! If you start the year with unconfidence you won't be successful. Either you think that you haven't a good English grammer try to speak in the lesson and tell your opinions by not caring the other students attitude towards you. Don't forget that everybody can not have a great language knowladge. Your aim should be to do your best=)
I recommend them to participate all lessons. Because in this programme, your participation should be 80% to pass. Moreover, they shouldn't forget to bring materials and should be active in class.
I know I said I wouldn't comment, but I just wanted to correct one thing Deniz E. said: Participation is 25% of our course, not 80%! (You get 25 points for Participation)
I have another advice for students. Do not wait for the end of the semester to learn how you are being graded. Otherwise, you may get disappointed at the end of the year....
I advise that they should be carefully about the attendance because to me, attendance has a big role for passing this class. If their English is not enough, they will be in difficulty ı think. Because ı was in the same situation. But don't be shy, just try to do best.Also do all the things that your teacher wants.So your theacher will see your hard works. It is not so difficult to pass this class.
I advise that they should bring all metarials on Bilgi online and almost everyday they should be checked blog site or email account regularly . In my opinion attendance is the most important thing to succsess this programme and they get 25 points for participation. The other important point is that journal entry they should improve the quality of journal entry. Lastly , in my opinion this programme is not so hard , they should try to do their best and they should be disciplined
I also recommend that they should NOT miss their tutorials because if they do they will disappoint their teacher wich causes a degradation in their grades.
I recommend the students who will enter this course that they have an opportunity to pass with not missing the classes,doing their homeworks on time,listen lessons carefully and give their attention to their teachers,bringing their materials to excuss the Bilgi Online. On the other hand this programme is different from the other's classes programme, they will not have an term examination. Within the year they will have an quizs, so they will have a chance to try to do their best. On the other hand, they will be faced with unaccustomed thing through with their teachers' Sonja=) They will have an opportunity to improve their writing and thinking skills with debate on the blog discussion for each subject. It is more enjoyable than the doing homework ı think they will like it. It is essential think to improve their skills. Furthermore, each semestre,every week they have to write journals with answering teacher's question. As I mean to say, this programme is flexible if we compare other programme. If they have a chance to choose, I recoomend them they would prefer to other for learning economy. I accept that with this programme the general issues on the world have given me directly and ı have learnt many essential things but it is not enough for business economy student. For all the students,the most important think is studying hard and learning the subjects not passing without learning. Just a clarification of Uğur's point: Your grade does not suffer if you miss your tutorial.
I recommend that as first, they should be interested with their class.If they do not follow programme of the year, take notes, listen to teacher announces as carefully, and look online materials they can hate the course and get bored.
Especially, participation is the most important as all my course mates emphasized that.
The students who do not feel confortable or satisfied with their English writing/speaking/listenig skills, they really should not miss the classes and try to participate as much as they can during the lesson. Also, they should try to do their best while doing the homeworks and give extra effort. This class is a very good opportunity for those who want improve English writing/speaking skills.
However, I do not think that this class is the appropriate one to be compulsory for every student. But, it would be better if it can be recommended for some students. That would be more beneficial in all respects.
Firstly, incoming students should know that this is like an English course. So, they should brace to learn new writing,reading skills. Participation and attendance are most important things to receive attention. They should also bring them their all course materials every time to follow the lesson easily.
According to my observations about this year, someone who is going to enter this programme next year should definetely be aware of the topics and come to school regularly. they should be active in the class and ask questions whenever they don't understand smt. they should follow the instructions carefully and just do the things that teacher wanted them to do. they also should show an improvement compared to the beginning of the year. they should write their essays, jornals and blogs diligently.
I can say that this year was easy with participation and attention but it was not cheery =)
This class is very important not only for improvement of the skills but also for the rest classes because you can learn how to express yourself and organize your opinions. If you want to be successful in this class, you should be aware of the some key points like timing. It is very important to do homeworks and write the essay drafts on time. You will have some responsibilities like homeworks, writing essays, quizes, blog discussion, participation instead of midterm exams. This means that you have more chance to get higher grades than other programme. These also help you to understand whatever you can do and which skills you should improve. Blog discussion is one of the ways to discuss and learn new things together. For that reason, you should carefully follow and try to participate it. This programe is very important for critical thinking and improvement of the skills. If you are willing to study, you can pass this class easily. Attending class regularly, doing homework on time and participation are key factors in order to pass.
They firstly should take this lesson serious. Also that point is the starter point for achivement in that course. You should do your whole homeworks at time and should follow your feedback. You should be careful on class meterials, blog discussions, participation, attandance, and quizes. During the class they should listen teacher carefully and take notes. Most of my class mates have said similar things and I agree with they. However, I think “participate” is the most important thing to do. Incoming students have to participate whole blog discussions and class activities. If they participate most activities that their lecturer gives, they can easily get higher grades. For incoming students, i can recommend that they should bring all of their materials and do their homework at the right time. Therefore they must follow teacher's instructions (online.bilgi.edu.tr or class). And also journal is important part for this programme. If they write their journal regular.they can see their development, strenghts and weaknesses. For this programme, their aim should be thinking widely. So they should research more every topic to learn more. Because thinking and learning are basic part of this programme.
as i see my friends have already written some useful and basic advices.i would want to add a very useful one,the one which should worth attention of all the rookies; never ever make any major plans for your weekend without being aware of your homeworks. not all but some of them requires really much time and there is always more then it seems. for example if you have a writing work with max. 2 pages, it means, 2 times 4 equals that at least 8 pages of sheets you have to look up and research. so never underestimate your homework. also check the final version of your work twice.that would help a lot.and always try to understand clearly what does the teacher demands.if not,dont be afraid to ask her.
I think that the first thing that I can recommend is that they should come to all classes. Especially, if they believe that their English(reading, writing and listening) are not enough, they should work really hard during and after the class.Moreover they should do all of homework and necessary things what a lecturer says.Furthermore, they should bring all the materials in the class so that they can easily fallow the class. However I believe that this class can be compulsory for the ones who have lack of English skills and have not enough skills to read, write,listenand speak in English.

I agree with Selin. However, speaking in English may not be important only for your grades, it is also beneficial to practise and to increase your self- confidence while speaking in a different language.
In my opinion incoming students should know good vocabulary and they should speak english understandable.They must come to all class because İf new students loss lessons they don't learn anything about lesson because all lessons connected with each other.I can advise that incoming students must bring materials about lessons and they should do their homework on time.This lessons teach critical thinking so they have to learn discussion

I strongly recommend that everybody who will enter this programme nex year should come to class everyday. İf you miss the lessons it will be very diffcult to pass this class for you. The second thing is participation. If you sit in the class without talking during the lesson you can not learn something because if you want to improve your english you must participate in the lesson. In addition to this you should take notes and listen very carefully to your teacher. The important thing is that you should come to school with your materials to use in the class. Without materials you can not be succesful in the lesson also using bilgi online is very significant thing for this lesson. Because the teacher put worksheets, handouts and important informations to online and you should print them before coming to lesson. If you do all of this there is no reason for you to fail.
I advise that they should take this year and especially this class serious because this class is more important for their English.

I recommend to the new students who will choose this program next year that they should take participation carefuly and listen to the theacher seriously. They should come to class regularly. They should do their homework and send them on time. It is also important to bring all the mateirals to the class. They should follow the bilgi online.
I would reccomend that they should really care about the participation. Because we don't have final exams so we had to come to class and learn about the quizes. I actually didn't know that we could choose the other programme if i did, i would choose the other one. Because this year should have been my first year at school and must had to make new friends and come to school more. But with this programme I couldn't take more lessons. That's why i recommend them to choose the other programme. But if they really want to stay in this one, then they should come to school, to every class and they have to keep up with evertything because we had no final exams, we were graded in every class we took. Thats why it was hard. Finally, they should bring their homework on time and not miss the deadline.
