Task:
“Without a large proportion of poverty there could be no riches, since riches are the offspring of labour, while labour can result only from a state of poverty. Poverty therefore is a most necessary and indispensable ingredient in society, without which nations and communities could not exist in a state of civilization” (Colqunoun quoted in Marshall, p.254).
Write a well-structured paragraph of no less than 100 words in which you explain what Colqunoun means in your own words, give examples to illustrate his argument, then say to what extent you dis/agree that poverty is necessary to society and why. DUE WEDNESDAY, 31ST OCTOBER BEFORE OUR CLASS.
You will receive both peer and teacher feedback on this assignment, and we will use your paragraphs in class to start working on writing skills.
