Can Turks be trusted with their own future?
Turks can't be trusted with their future if the ruling elite continue not to trust the citizens. The lack of confidence is because of the low education level of the country and the ruling elite, trying to use this as an advantage to exploit people. Turkey isn't in need of ruling elite that doesn't have a faith in even its citizens and can't see the respect that they feel for both their country and their revolutionary leader Ataturk, whom they owe their current secular system. Just like Kinzer stated, the elite's manner causes Turkey to be in a "national dilemma" that blocks the country to develop. That's why it became a country that has come to a stand still, although it has resources to be one of the advanced domains in the world. The elite disdain Turkey's decisions so much that it automatically affects Turks belief in them. But this shouldn't be like that, Turkey made a great progress, denied imperialism and accepted the rules of a new democratic system years ago. This might be a lead that Turkey will be ready for true democracy if the ruling elite take action and make the public conscious of their future. To conclude, Turkey's future is in Turk's hands. I believe that the Turk's trust with their own future is not possible until the elite do something in favor of the citizens.
