I think if the military class that Kinzer indicates in the text as ‘’ruling elite’’ in Turkey, trusts Turks’ knowledge and ambition and believes in that they can be mature enough to participate in political life and make vital decisions for the future of Turkey, turks can have the courage in order to contribute to society by feeling content being a real member of this nation.
I believe that that the ruling elite does not want to give an opportunity to Turks for participating in political life and making significant decisions for Turkey’s future, because the ruling elite sees Turks immature and illiterate and thus for this reason the ruling elite hesitates for giving Turks right to be in political life in order to impede possible internal and external threats that might be not obstructed by immature Turks. The main reason for the ignoring of Turks is the fear of giving control to Turks to govern, because the ruling elite underlines that Turks don’t have the ability of protecting real democracy but in this condition, As Kinzer regards in his text ‘’true democracy’’never becomes real according to the effort of the ruling elite in order to alienate Turks. At this point it is quite possible to realize that the ruling elite is the one who decelerates the alterations for forming the “true democracy”(Kinzer) reluctantly.
I believe that if the ruling elite could understand the abilty of Turks and trust to them, nowadays Turks would have the courage in order to make vital decisions. However, now as if they feel the mistrust and disbelief of ruling elite, they even do not care about the future of Turkey and they become even more apolitical members.
Therefore, the first thing that the ruling elite should do in order to provide Turks’ power and dynamism is to trust and give opportunity to Turks for encouraging them.Otherwise, how can limited and non self-governıng communities feel the soul of democracy?
